Inequalities in budget allocation for social sectors in Mozambique
With our partner N’weti, we work to strengthen health financing in Mozambique. N’weti leads the analysis of the country’s situation, with our support as needed, while together we focus on how global policies and actors influence the financing of Mozambique’s health system. Recently, N’weti published a policy note examining inequalities in the allocation of public resources to social sectors, with a particular emphasis on health, that also provides recommendations for improvements. On October 28th, we handed over an open letter to the Dutch Ministry of Health calling for increased transparency in the pharmaceutical sector. The letter was signed by numerous experts and organizations, including the Dutch Patient Federation and Doctors Without Borders Netherlands. The current lack of transparency is leading to inexplicably high medicine prices, which weigh heavily on healthcare budgets. Early next year we will also present the letter to the Dutch House of Representatives.
