Organization and team

Wemos is a foundation based in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1979 and has since then been dedicated to structurally improving health worldwide. Our team consists of almost 30 employees. The management is in the hands of the director, Mariëlle Bemelmans. In addition to a supervisory function, our supervisory board also has an advisory role. The division of tasks, authorities and responsibilities is defined in our statutes.

“During my years in Africa, I saw firsthand how unfair it is that many people do not have access to the health services they need. Imagine a pregnant woman with a complication, who has no money to pay for the necessary treatment. Unfortunately, economic interests still too often win out over health interests. While health should be a much higher priority for everyone worldwide. At Wemos, we are addressing the root causes of this on a global level.”

Supervisory board

The supervisory board supervises the policy of the board and the general course of affairs at Wemos. The board also has an advisory function. Members perform their work without remuneration.
