Countries are losing billions of dollars through large-scale international tax evasion. Governments could put this money to good use for public services, such as healthcare. That is why member states of the United Nations are working on a tax convention to combat cross-border tax evasion and avoidance. Unfortunately, the Netherlands is currently working against the treaty.
In an opinion article in Dutch national newspaper NRC, Barbara Fienieg (Wemos) and Arnold Merkies (Tax Justice NL) call on the Netherlands to cooperate fully in the creation of the UN Tax Convention.
