Wemos statement on financing in the draft pandemic agreement for INB12

Wemos is participating in the 12th Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) session, where WHO member states are drafting and negotiating a pandemic agreement. We have been selected to deliver a public statement, in which we urge governments to include binding commitments for sustainable, fair and additional financing, to ensure that all countries can equally invest in pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. Financing: don’t let it be an afterthought in the pandemic agreement

In the final negotiations of the global pandemic agreement, member states should ensure the agreement includes a fair and resilient financial framework. Wemos global health advocates Mariska Meurs and Koen Scholten wrote a guest essay in the Geneva Health Files presenting recommendations on how to ensure sustainable fair financing of pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. Eight political parties commit to global health and SRHR at launch Multi-Party Initiative

On Friday 4 October, the Dutch Global Health Alliance (DGHA) and the SRHR platform - of which Wemos is a member - launched the Multi-Party Initiative (MPI) on Global Health and Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR) at Nieuwspoort in The Hague. Members of Parliament of eight political parties joined the initiative: Roelien Kamminga (VVD), Sarah Dobbe (SP), Femke Zeedijk (NSC), Danielle Hirsch (GroenLinks/PvdA), Marieke Koekkoek (Volt), Derk Boswijk (CDA), Wieke Paulusma (D66) en Ines Kostic (PvdD). Strengthening the Netherlands’ leading role on global health and sexual and reproductive rights with launch of MultiParty Initiative

On Friday 4 October, civil society members of the Dutch Global Health Alliance (which includes Wemos) and the SRHR platform are launching the MultiParty Initiative (MPI) on Global Health and Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR). This informal group of Dutch Members of Parliament (MPs) works jointly to support the Dutch government’s efforts on global health and SRHR. Read more

Through interviews with thought leaders, the campaign shows how everyone’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) can be realized through an intersectional approach. After the Schoof cabinet presented its government programme last Friday, today - Prinsjesdag - is dedicated to announcements about the government's budget statement, with new planned budget cuts in development aid. We call on members of parliament to reverse these cuts and rather invest in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals - for a stable and healthy world, for the Netherlands and beyond. Netherlands should donate mpox vaccines

Unlike Minister Agema (Healthcare), a majority of members of parliament fortunately do think we should send mpox vaccines to countries in Africa. After all, it contributes to containing the infectious disease and thus the risk of it spreading to even more countries. Moreover, it is in line with the Dutch Global Health Strategy 2023-2030.
