Negotiating text of the Pandemic Accord: promising for access to medicines, concerning on adequate financing

On 30th October 2023, the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB), responsible for drafting and negotiating a WHO Pandemic Accord, released the latest proposal for the negotiating text. Wemos has a mixed assessment regarding health workforce, access to medicines and financing. Launch of campaign ‘Choose a different climate. Vote for justice.’

Today, over 50 civil society organizations - including Wemos - are launching the election campaign 'Choose a different climate. Vote for justice.' It calls on all Dutch voters to make their voices heard in the run-up to the elections. The manifest at the core of the campaign states that our new political leaders should take humanity and justice as a starting point when they make decisions that impact people in and outside the Netherlands. 73rd WHO Regional Committee for Europe: statement on health and care workforce

Wemos and other non-State actors in official relations with the WHO urge WHO EURO member states to cease the international competition for health workers, and to work together to improve working conditions for health workers, so they can deliver the best possible health care for all European citizens. This is one of our asks in our live statement - presented by global health advocate Corinne Hinlopen - on the WHO European Framework for Action on the health and care workforce 2023–2030, at the 73rd session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe in Astana, Kazakhstan (24-26 October).
