At the end of the year, we always take a moment to reflect on our contribution to make health justice happen, in the Netherlands and worldwide. We have presented our highlights of 2025 in a new document. Have a look! Read more
Wemos and partners are proud to co-host two side events during the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78), taking place in Geneva from 19 to 27 May 2025. In our sessions, we will dive into some of the pressing issues in global health today: what are the economic pathways to bring more resources to public health, and what can governments do to increase transparency of pharmaceutical markets.
The WHA78 will bring together delegations from all World Health Organization’s (WHO) member states to negotiate critical policies shaping the future of global health. This year’s agenda includes a resolution to strengthen health financing and discussions on improving access to medicines and vaccines. These decisions could affect the lives of the 4.5 billion people worldwide who still lack access to essential health services, most of whom live in low- and middle-income countries.

At the WHA78, WHO member states negotiations are happening in the context of drastic budget cuts that are already having immense consequences on people’s lives around the world. Governments are called upon to increase public health budgets – but they are faced with ever rising debt service payments and illicit financial flows that drain public resources away from vital public services.
To get the needed reforms to the global financial system off the ground, we need the global health community to add their voices to demands for economic justice.
This event, hosted by the Geneva Global Health Hub (G2H2) partners, will bring together experts from diverse backgrounds to illustrate the flaws in the global financial architecture, their impact on health financing, and how they can be transformed to support equity, sustainability and access to health for all.

Report ‘Pharmaceutical transparency: from resolution to reality’
Wemos and Health Action International are pleased to invite you to join our side event on the progress of implementation of WHA resolution 72.8 on pharmaceutical transparency.
Transparency of the pharmaceutical sector is a critical issue. All over the world, policymakers, academics and civil society organizations are developing initiatives to increase pharmaceutical transparency to determine fair prices for health products and improve the overall accountability of the sector.
This side event marks the launch of our joint report ‘Pharmaceutical transparency: from resolution to reality‘, in which we highlight the steps taken in different countries to implement WHA resolution 72.8. Our event will gather policymakers and civil society representatives to discuss the current state of the implementation, as well as recommendations to continue translating the commitments into reality.
